Purple Plates for Christmas

In 2022, inflation and cost-of-living increases made hunger an even more serious problem in Western Australia. Many struggling parents were missing out on meals so their kids could eat. 1-in-5 Western Australians went hungry in the last 12 months – that’s 208,000 households. And, shockingly, more than half of these food-insecure households had someone in paid work. Tough times for many as the festive season approached. 

Our solution – Purple Plates. While people were filling their own plates we invited them to buy an empty plate at participating restaurants. Each empty plate would help Foodbank to fill a plate for food-insecure families at Christmas. People could also buy a plate online or share a plate on socials to help spread the word. 

A record breaking 1.1 million meals were provided, making Purple Plates Foodbank WA’s most successful donation-driving campaign.
